The
Measurement Technology Group is a consortium of companies who offer precision non-contact
laser based measurement and inspection systems for industry and research.
Our member companies both integrate and sell laser distance sensors from
short range, high precision units, to long range sensors capable of
measuring distances up to 500 meters.
Non-contact
measurement techniques using laser based gauging have many advantages over the traditional
contact gauging methods, like calipers, hand-held
micrometers, and touch probes:
-
No
surface damage, such as scratches or dents
-
Measurement
repeatability is generally improved because you no
longer rely on "user feel" operating the
measurement device
-
Properties
of soft materials, such as thickness, cannot be
physically changed with a laser gauge, like it can
with a hand-held micrometer
-
Non-contact
gauges do not physically "wear", thus requiring
less maintenance
-
Non-contact
gauges can be readily automated
-
Non-contact
gauges are ideal for integrating into data acquisition
systems

Laser
Displacement Sensors
A Laser Displacement Sensor is ideal for
non-contact precision distance measurement and thickness measurement,
and surface profiling. It is common to integrate a laser
displacement sensor into in-process thickness measurement applications.
